Möbius experiences: Immersive art installations and Mobile Book Box
Imagine that your fantasy story would be converted into a digital audiovisual experience. This happened to the authors Giulio Ravizza and Filippo Rubulotta. Their fantasy stories arose as an audiovisual show in Kunstkraftwerk Leipzig, Germany. This show can be presented in the Möbius Immersive Box (MIB) and as a VR experience – in any desired European venue.
How is an Immersive Show created?
Each good movie based on a book requires a close reading of the novel. Then, a creative process starts.
First, multimedia expert Franz Fischnaller (Italy) and KKW-owner Markus Loeffler focused on reading material of “The Influence of Blue” (Giulio Ravizza) and “Fantasy into Möbius” (Filippo Rubulotta) to extract the storylines and design a series of scenes. These storyboards were the basis of a visual immersive concept which had to be composed for the four walls and one floor of the venue. Franz Fischnaller knows the venue very well, so he imagined the projections and perceptions of the viewpoints to create a 3D-panoramic illusion for the audience. The process concluded with many steps, such as sketching the scenes and generating suitable images. When the show’s sequences were clear, Fischnaller started rendering to produce the visual video effect. This process generates a film from a large stack of high-resolution pictures (about 30 pictures per second) and is done by the computer over many days. Sound designer and composer Rupert Huber (Vienna) accompanied the production of the shows very closely and produced the audio in parallel with the video.
Finally, the two finished immersive shows (22 and 8 minutes) have been presented in Kunstkraftwerk, an old factory space in Leipzig, Germany. Filmstills of the video, taken by Franz Fischnaller, were used by the Möbius partners to enrich the Möbius apps.
Möbius Immersive Box
The show version also runs in the Mobile Immersive Box, which was designed to send the shows around to other venues. With the assistance of EURECAT, the box audio system was also made 3D-sound compatible.
KKW had the idea for the MBB. Franz Fischnaller created a design with a Möbius logo on the edge. Kunstkraftwerk then did the technical planning with a professional trade fair construction system, a selection of projectors, a sound system and a media server. In an interplay with the sound designer Rupert Huber, Timothy Schmele (EURECAT) and the KKW technicians arranged a 3D sound system especially for the MBB. It was first tested at the Frankfurt Book Fair and reached good results.
